Wyong Slipper Option For Melbourne Filly
Story By Grahame Timbrell
Monday, 18 February 2008: | | Clinton McDonald | Trainer Clinton McDonald also has the filly entered for the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday but she is number 47 on the order of entry and is likely to be balloted out.
"We are definitely considering bringing her up to Wyong, particularly if we miss a start in the Blue Diamond" Clinton said today.
"We want to wait and look at the fields for both races before making a decision. Then we may go on to the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast."
The final field for the Blue Diamond will be declared on Tuesday, giving McDonald ample time to transport Chilean Miss to Wyong if she misses a place in the final line-up.
Chilean Miss was controversially scratched at the last minute from the Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield on February 9 when veterinary surgeons claimed the filly was lame.
McDonald was outraged, claiming there was nothing wrong with the filly.
She trialled the following Tuesday in front of the same vets and chief steward Des Gleeson, beating Blue Diamond hopeful Marveen.
Chilean Miss pulled up perfectly after the trial.
The filly, bought for $300,000 at the Magic Millions sales, is owned by Sydney-based Damien Flower, owner o the 2006 Wyong Slipper winner Snitzel.
Chilean Miss has started only once, winning a two-year-old maiden at Mornington last month by six lengths.
The ease of the win and her winning time stamped her as a filly of considerable potential.
Nominations for the Wyong Slipper, the $100,000 Magic Millions Stakes (1300m) for three-year-olds and all minor races on Sunday's program close at 11am on Tuesday.
