NZ Stewards Charge Jockey Over Insurance Scam
Wednesday, 20 February 2008: Chief steward Cameron George formally charged Bradley with a Serious Racing Offence under NZ Racing Rules.
The c rule states a person may be chraged if he or she 'does or permits or suffers to be done any act which a Judicial Committee deems detrimental to the interests of racing.'
The charge has been brought against Bradley for allegedly making a verbal offer by telephone to a representative of the insurance brokerage firm Fraser McAndrew Ryan Limited in Dunedin seeking money or some other benefit.
Bradley contacted the company after he was engaged to ride Eel Win in the Southland Guineas on February 16.
If Eel WIn won it would have saved the insurance company paying a $100,000 bonus.
The bonus was offered by Gallop South to the connections of a horse that won all three Gallop South Festival Guineas races at Gore, Dunedin and Invercargill.
FRitzy Boy had won the first two legs and was in line for the bonus. He also won the third leg but the bonus was not paid as there was not the required 10 runners.
Bradley is to face the Judicial Control Authority in Wellignton on date to be fixed.
This investigation was opened in response to a complaint lodged by Gallop South.
Interviews were conducted by NZTR with Bradley, employees of Fraser McAndrew Ryan Limited and three other persons.
