KILMORE: Sand Sweeper Strikes In Kilmore Cup

Monday, 18 February 2008: Trainer John Wheeler sent Sand Sweeper to his Melbourne stable for a jumping career but he may have to reconsider and look for better races on the flat after the Sandtrap gelding was never threatened.

The seven-year-old easily held out fellow Kiwi–bred Tears 'N' Triumph and Orbit Express in an impressive display after arriving from New Zealand only four days before the 1600m race.

"It was a good effort. He only arrived on Wednesday and hadn't raced for five weeks," said Wheeler's Melbourne foreman Brett Scott.

"John's done a bit of jumping with him to get him fit and he was pretty confident. He's been racing against Group horses in New Zealand."
