Eremein in Australian Cup nominations

The gelding wasn't among nominations for this weekend's traditional lead-up to the Australian Cup – the Group 2 St George Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield where most of the Australian Cup hopefuls will be taking their place.
With a month between runs already and only one lead-up race under his belt, Eremein's chances of running in the Australian Cup are looking slim despite being one of the top fancies for the race in pre-post markets.
Part owner Beryl White, speaking on Radio 4TAB this morning, knew about as much as the betting public about the next start for the immensely talented galloper but all but ruled out an Australian Cup start.
“He's working find and working every day, but probably not up to scratch,” White said.
“We've talked about taking him to Melbourne for three years now and he's never made it, so we don't talk about it much any more.
“There doesn't seem to be a major problem, he's still in work and there's plenty of races here (Sydney).”
Eremein is the first in ballot order of the 60 entries for the $1 million Group 1 Darley Australian on March 8, which includes the top two in betting Maldivian and Princess Coup, as well as some other big names unlikely to take their place like Melbourne Cup winner Efficient and stablemate Zipping.
