Breakthrough Group 1 Winner For Anabaa Stallion

Monday, 11 August 2008: Spirit One, from the Sicyos mare Lavayssiere, is now the winner of five races from 18 outings and almost $1.1million in prizemoney.

He failed to win in 2007, but returned in style this year with a cavalier three length win in the G3 Prix Exbury at Saint-Cloud in March before running second in the G2 Prix d'Harcourt at Longchamp in April.

His win in this prestigious event underlines the merit of the form around Duke Of Marmalade, as Spirit One ran fourth to him in the G1 Prix Ganay on April 27 and all three runners behind him have since won at Group 1 level.

Spirit One accounted for Kingmambo entire Archipenko and Rock Of Gibraltar stallion Mount Nelson in the Arlington Million.

Anabaa Blue won the 2001 French Derby among a career that netted four wins and $US715,000 in prizemoney.

To date he is the sire of three crops to race for three stakes winners and 42 winners.

His sire Anabaa has been one of Australia's leading stallions throughout this decade, but will not be returning to Widden in 2008.

He shuttled to Australia for 11 consecutive seasons and last year covered 80 mares off a fee of $55,000.

These included classy stakes winners like Danni Martine, Demerger, Emlozza, Fantasia, Lolita Star, Razer Blade, Rose Archway, Street Smart, The Big Chill and Will Fly.
